Dorothy Strichertz Obituary
Dorothy Strichertz, age 93, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at a local care center.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Watertown.
Fr. Michael Wensing will be the celebrant.
Music will be provided by Jane Rokusek as organist with Blaine Martian and DeAnn Roti-Cudly. The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday, May 5, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.
Active pallbearers will be Rick Amundson Sr., Rick Amundson Jr., Jeremy Kasperson, Chris Amundson, Rodger Gross, Jayson Roti and Gene Kasperson. Dorothy was born March 28, 1926, to William "Bill" and Lela (Ward) Strichertz, in Troy, SD.
She attended grade school in Troy, SD along with a country school near Strandburg, SD, and graduated from Milbank High School. Upon graduation, Dorothy began working in Conde, SD and later at the Haggar Drug Store in Watertown until her retirement.
After retirement, Dorothy became a Home Health Aide and cared for many loved ones that she not only treated as patients, but became family to them.
Dorothy would move in and care for her loved ones with such a gentle and kind heart.
Those that she cared for were Bernice Hanson, Cora Kasperson, MaryAnn Kranz and Selma Lansberger.
Dorothy's love didn't end there though... friendships meant everything to Dorothy and she was a thoughtful gift giver.
She spent so much time thinking of gifts for each individual and then wrapped it with her special creative touch. Dorothy is survived by her adoptive families: Karen (Rick) Amundson and families, Karen (Rodger) Gross and families; Karen (Allen) Kasperson and families, and Joann Roti and family all of Watertown, SD. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents: William "Bill" and Lela Strichertz and twin brother James "Jim" Strichertz.
