Elaine M. Flury, age 96, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at a local care center.
She was the widow of Elden Flury.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Rev. Paul Janke will officiate.
The family is requested to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Active pallbearers will be Elaine's nephews: Michael Klatt, Jeffrey Griffin, Brian Griffin, Rodney Klatt, Richard Klatt and Roger Fritz. Elaine was born on March 27, 1923 to Hubert and Dora (Mischke) Klatt in Hamlin County, SD.
She moved to Codington County at the age of one and was raised in rural Hazel. She attended grade school in Codington County along with the School of Agriculture in Brookings, SD, graduating in 1942.
Upon graduation, she attended General Beadle in Madison, SD where she obtained her teaching degree.
She taught in a rural school called North Graceland from 1943-1945. On October 15, 1944, Elaine married Elden Flury at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grover, SD. To this union, two children were born.
Elaine taught for two years until she began farming with her husband and was a homemaker for her family.
In June of 1999, she moved to Watertown with her husband. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henry, SD, transferring to St. Martin's Lutheran Church in 2013.
Elaine was active in the church and participated in the choir as well as being a Sunday school teacher. She was also a former 4-H leader and active in her children's activities.
She loved handwork, reading, and being in her flower garden. Elaine is survived by her children, Wayne (Joyce) Flury of Buffalo, MN and Janet (Rollie) Heiden of Watertown, SD; her sister Ruth Griffin of Watertown, SD, and sister in-law RuthAnn Klatt of Watertown, SD; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Elden; parents, Hubert and Dora; infant great-grandson Brogan Mack; brothers, Ernest and Raymond Klatt and sisters: Gertrude Fritz and infant twin sisters, Anna and Alice.
