What To Do
Erwin W. “Bud” Lenz, age 93, of Goodwin, SD, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Nelson Funeral Home at 820 Talcott Road, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Pastor Glenn Hunt will officiate. Burial will be at Eden Cemetery, 9851 W. Irving Park Road, Schiller Park, IL.
Bud was born on May 12, 1925, to Irwin and Elizabeth (Riemann) Lenz, in Chicago, IL. He was a 1943 graduate of Steinmetz High School in Chicago. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy, Bud married Eleanor Pelt at the San Diego Naval Base, CA on July 25, 1945. After Bud was honorably discharged, the couple moved back to Chicago where he worked for the railroad. He then started working at Rahn’s Furniture in Brookfield, IL as the general manager, later working for Bekins Van Lines as the services and facilities manager.
After retiring from Bekins in 1988, Bud and Eleanor moved to Goodwin, SD, where he has resided since, spending winters in Florida, mostly in Hudson. Bud was a model train enthusiast and he also enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses. He was a talented artist and he designed and built miniatures, including an elaborate dollhouse and a replica of his grandfather’s (Peter Riemann), early 1900’s Chicago fish market storefront and apartment building. He also enjoyed genealogy, compiling and keeping very good family records.
Bud is survived by his son, Terry (Joyce) Lenz of Johnsburg, IL; his son-in-law, Keith Siegfried of Goodwin, SD; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren and eight step-great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; his daughter, Cheri; his parents; and his sister, Dellora Rahn.
