Gene was born on August 6, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN, to James and Ethel (Robillard) Williams. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in Minnesota and then entered the US Navy. Gene later attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.
On June 9, 1951, Gene married Patty Snook in Cannon Falls, MN. To this union seven children were born. The couple moved to Watertown where they lived for several years. Patty passed away in 2004. On January 19, 2007, Gene married Donna Sheehan in Watertown, SD.
He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. The family remembers Gene for his eternal optimism, his quick wit and sense of fun. Although he loved to golf, he was more talented as an artist than a golfer. He jazzed up conversation with silly words that brought bursts of laughter. His legacy is found in the protection and love he bestowed on his family.
Gene is survived by his wife, Donna of Watertown, SD; his children: John (MaryAnn) Williams of Carlisle, MA, Sue (Greg Kohlenberg) Williams of Sioux Falls, SD, Tom (Rita) Williams of Watertown, SD, Mark (Lisa) Williams of Watertown, SD, Michael (Susan) Williams of St. Cloud, MN, Cathy (Ed) Knadle of Watertown, SD, and Christine Walraven of Watertown, SD; 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; Donna’s children: Margaret Sheehan of Indianapolis, IN, Tim (Lisa) Sheehan of Watertown, SD, Mary (Brent) Konvalin of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve (Jeanne) Sheehan of Watertown, SD, and Carolyn (Sean) Thurman of Watertown, SD; and Donna’s 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
