Gladys Stanton Obituary
Gladys C. Stanton, age 101, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at a local care center.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Pastor Steve Biswell will officiate and provide music.
The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will take place prior to services at the chapel on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of Gladys' grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Danny Stanton, Todd Swenson, Scott McGuire, Steve Stanton, James Stanton and Jamie Durham. Gladys was born on August 15, 1918, in Waubay, SD, to Fred and Anna (Hanland) Holscher.
She attended and graduated from Waubay High School. On April 7, 1935, Gladys married Lyle Stanton in Redfield, SD.
The couple made their home in several areas, farming the land in Butler, Aberdeen, Pickeral Lake and later the Waubay/Ortley area.
Gladys and Lyle moved to Watertown in 1949 and lived the rest of their lives there.
Lyle passed away on December 5, 1986. She was a member and very active in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church.
In her free time, Gladys enjoyed embroidery, ceramics, and babysitting.
She was known as "Grandma Lyle".
She adored all the time she spent with her family. Gladys is survived by her children: Anita (Roger) Swenson, Marilyn Durham, Sandra Carr, Danny (Salley) Stanton and Roger (Sue) Stanton, all of Watertown; her daughter-in-law, Mary Stanton; 21 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; her parents, Fred and Anna; two sons, Lyle, Jr. and Allen; two sons-in-law, Jack Carr and Terry Durham, Sr.; her grandson, Jeff McGuire; her great-grandson, James; and two brothers and five sisters.
