Hal Tesch Obituary

Hal E. Tesch, age 74, of Norfolk, NE, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at a care center in Norfolk, NE. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. Pastor Mark Reichert and Pastor Paul Hirsch will be officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Livingston as organist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday for a family prayer service.

Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and also prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Burial will be at Helgen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Florence, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Hal's grandchildren: Garth (Paige) Spreeman, Hallie and Hazel Spreeman, Jack, Zeke, Sophie and Eric Strand, Kia Hasson, Bristol and Laramie Tesch, Rebekah, Elliott, Westley and Wendell Vlieger and Tenlie Tesch. Active pallbearers will be Hal's sons and sons-in-law: Boyd Tesch, Lloyd Tesch, Wiatt Tesch, Ryan Tesch, Miles Spreeman, Jim Strand and Michael Vlieger

Hal was born on June 18, 1945, to Albert and Stella (Cook) Tesch, in Watertown, SD. He was a graduate of St. Martin's Lutheran School and confirmed at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. He also attended Northwestern Lutheran Academy.

On October 9, 1966, Hal was united in marriage to Barbara Winge in Watertown. The couple farmed and raised dairy for many years. In 1997 the couple moved to Waco, NE, where Hal worked at an ethanol plant. After retiring in 2016, Hal helped his daughter and son-in-law on their farm, then started his own tree cutting business. He continued to find odd jobs to keep him busy. Hal loved to work and continued working until the end. He was a friend to all. His greatest joy and pride were his family. Hal was very proud of his seven children and 15 grandchildren. He was willing to share his faith in Jesus with anyone.

Hal is survived by his wife, Barbara of Norfolk, NE; his children: Boyd Tesch of Watertown, SD, Shannon (Miles) Spreeman of Norfolk, NE, Veronica (Jim) Strand of Bloomer, WI, Lloyd (Jennifer) Tesch of Anchorage, AK,

Wiatt (Juliet) Tesch of Yankton, SD, Ryan Tesch of Mankato, MN and Estelle (Michael) Vlieger of Mankato, MN; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, Dale (Mary) Tesch of Watertown, SD and Burton (Ronae) Tesch of Hayti, SD; and two sisters, Louise (Bill) Pieper of Watertown, SD and Sandy (Hank) Albrecht of DeSmet, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Stella Tesch and his brother, Ferdinand "Ferdy" Tesch and 2 infant brother, David and Gordon.

Hal believed in and loved Christian education. Memorials given will be used to help support Lutheran Schools.
