Harold Hansen Obituary
Harold L. Hansen, age 92, of Watertown, SD, formerly Henry, SD, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at a care center in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. Rev. Kent Stillson and Rev. Gary Westgard will officiate. Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist with Duane and Char Peterson as vocalists. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Burial will take place at the Graceland Cemetery in rural Henry, SD. Pallbearers will be: Terry Boyd, Gordon VanSickle, Jack Henning, Arlen Boehnke, Kurt Gassman and Wayne Fletcher.
Harold was born on October 22, 1924, near Henry, SD, to Hiene W. and Marie (Enevoldsen) Hansen. He graduated from Henry High School in 1942 where he excelled in basketball and track.
On June 6, 1945, Harold was united in marriage to Jeanette Christianson at the Naples Lutheran Church. They lived on the Hansen family farm in Graceland Township, rural Henry, SD, until 2005, when they moved into Watertown. Harold was born and lived on the same farm for 80 years. In addition to farming, Harold worked for the ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service) office for 57 years and served on their board of directors. He also served on the Graceland Cemetery Board, numerous local and township boards and church boards.
He was a member of the Naples Lutheran Church, many years at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown and was a current member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Jeanette and Harold helped organize Henry High School reunions, Graceland School reunions, Pederson and Enevoldsen family reunions, Henry Senior Citizens and assisted with several restorations at Graceland Cemetery and Church. Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing, attending sporting events and most of all, traveling with Jeanette.
Harold is survived by his four children: Sharon (Chuck) Stender of Colfax, WI, Gary (Karen) Hansen of Chatfield, MN, Milan (Linda) Hansen of Washington Court House, OH, and Tanis Hansen (Roosevelt Toney) of Stockton, CA; six grandchildren: Michael, Raymie, Rory, Eric, Matthew and Scott; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, on June 16, 2017; one granddaughter-in-law, Farrah Stender; and two sisters, Gladys Thrasher and Luella Graves.
