Harriet Chancellor Obituary

Harriet Chancellor, age 84, of Twin Brooks, SD, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away on March 11, 2019, at her daughter's home in Twin Brooks. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Patrick Jenkins will officiate and provide music. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bob Weagel, Terry Weagel, Curt Weagel, Kent Weagel, Steven Weagel and Stanley Weagel. Active pallbearers will be Robert Weagel, Chris Le, Donald Peterson, and Ronald Peterson. Harriet Weagel Chancellor was born on December 3, 1934, on a farm near Troy, SD to Harry and Alice (Holland) Weagel. She attended grade school and high school in Watertown, SD. Soon after graduating in 1953, Harriet moved to Fort Worth, TX, where she attended school at Texas Christian University. She received her registered medical secretary certificate from Boston, MA. She then began working as an assistant to a doctor in Fort Worth until 1957. Then, she moved to Berlin Germany to be married to Larry Chancellor. Their daughter, Kelly, was born in Germany in 1959. Harriet worked as a model and also did volunteer work while in Germany. From 1957 to 1963, Harriet and her family lived in 11 different states in the U.S., and 4 countries, namely Germany, France, Japan, and the Philippines. She also did some modeling while in Japan. The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1963 and lived there for six years. Harriet was on the Rocky Mount Ballet Board in Colorado Springs. In 1970, the family moved to Fort Worth, and lived there for several years. While there, Harriet was a member of the Delta Rho Delta and the Botanical Garden Club. Harriet left Texas in 1977 and moved to Watertown, SD to help take care of her parents while they were in the nursing home. She worked for Spies Corporation for 30 years as a property manager, and restaurant and maintenance supervisor, retiring in 2009. Harriet moved to Twin Brooks in 2009 to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Donald Peterson, and began living with them again in 2015. Harriet is survived by her daughter, Kelly, and her husband, Donald, of Twin Brooks, SD; her brother, Bob Weagel, and his wife, Maria, who live near Watertown; and her sister-in-law, Elaine Weagel, of Colorado Springs, CO; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, and her three brothers, Keith, and his wife, Frances, Edgar, and Don.
