Ivan Pietz Obituary

Ivan A. Pietz, age 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the hospital in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Watertown. Pastor Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. Music will be provided by Lynn Osthus as organist with Darrek and Celene Olson as vocalists. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.





Visitation will be at Hosanna Lutheran Church on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are being handled by the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.





Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, and Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Watertown and the Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Navy. Honorary pallbearers will be the residents on "Easy Street." Active pallbearers will be: Keith Pietz, Nick Pietz, Keith Eischens, Kevin Fuerst, Travis Baum and Bailey Neuhauser.





Ivan was born on August 7, 1927, in Hutchinson County, SD, to Edward and Alma (Hirsch) Pietz. He attended rural school and worked for various farmers in the Tripp, SD, area. Ivan entered the U.S. Navy on December 12, 1945, serving during WWII and was honorably discharged on November 27, 1946.





On August 29, 1949, Ivan married Linda E. Kurtz at Delmont, SD. Ivan worked in construction with Hattendorf Construction building churches and other buildings. The couple moved to Watertown in 1970 and Ivan worked for Schull Construction, later starting his own construction company called Watertown Builders, which he operated for over 25 years. He then worked as a building inspector for the City of Watertown, retiring in 2008.





He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church. Ivan enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting, gardening and neighborhood get togethers.





Ivan is survived by his wife, Linda, and his son, Duane (Diane) Pietz, both of Watertown; four grandchildren: April Pietz, Nicole Pietz (Keith Eischens), Keith Pietz and Nick Pietz; four great- grandchildren: Bailey Neuhauser, Elizabeth Pietz, Ethan Eischens and Chase Eischens; six brothers: Vilmer Pietz of Tripp, SD, Milbert (Esther) Pietz of Mitchell, SD, Harlan (Harriet) Pietz of Sioux Falls, SD, Darryl (Joy) Pietz of Watertown, Martin (Connie) Pietz of Rapid City, SD, and Larry (Penny) Pietz of Palisade, MN; and two sisters, MayDene Fuerst of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lola (Mike) Baum of Brandon, SD.





He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Pietz; his parents; and four sisters: LaVerna Guericke, Arlene Rieger, Glendora Bartunek and JoAnn Kirschenman.
