Jean DeVine Obituary
Jean K. DeVine, age 90, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Hazel, SD, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at a care center in Lake Norden, SD.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019, at Hayti Lutheran Church in Hayti, SD.
Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate.
Music will be provided by Lisa Pedersen.
Family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will take place prior to services at the church on Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the West Norden Cemetery in Hayti, SD.
Pallbearers will be Roger DeVine, Ron Schlenker, Glenn Prouty, Paul Kasten, Curt Luken and Dan Robinson. Jean was born on June 11, 1929, in Clear Lake, SD, to Harry and Rose (Brummond) Helland.
She attended school through the 10th grade in Clear Lake. On April 2, 1946, Jean married Francis "Fritz" DeVine in Goodwin, SD.
The couple farmed in the Goodwin area before moving to Hazel, SD, where Jean worked for Dakota Poultry.
She was a homemaker for the majority of her life.
After Fritz passed away May 18, 2006, Jean moved to Watertown where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was a member of Hayti Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Minnesota Twins.
In her spare time, Jean liked gardening and doing crossword puzzles.
Jean is survived by her children: Ginny Olson of Hayti, SD, Kathleen (Maynard) Bevers of Appleton, WI, Paulette (Terry) Kasten of Lake Norden, SD, Steve (Delane) DeVine of Winston Salem, NC, and Audrey (Ray) Lewno of Waubay, SD; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn DeVine of Watertown, SD, and Ida Mae DeVine of Albuquerque, NM. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz; her parents; one son-in-law, Rick Olson; three grandchildren: Bradley Olson, Melissa Lewno and Jenny Roberson; two great-granddaughters, Gabrielle Schlenker and Sydney DeVine; two brothers, Dwight (Grace) and Harley (Betty) Helland; one sister, Harriet (Bob) DeVine; and three brothers-in-law: Stanley (Marge), Russ and Hank DeVine.
