John Moes Obituary
John R. Moes, age 85, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his residence.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Rev. Paul Janke will officiate. Music will be provided by Carol Janke as organist with congregational singing.
The family is requested to meet at the church by 12:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Military graveside honors will be provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard.
Active pallbearers will be Jon Lenning, Mike Lenning, Alex Kettner, Rick Grothaus, Jim Falk and Dan Beutow. John was born on April 11, 1934, in Kranzburg, SD, to Albert and Helen (Bohls).
John and his mother moved to Watertown when he was 11 years old after the passing of his father.
He attended school in Watertown and Kranzburg. In 1955, John began working at Watertown Monument Works.
He was drafted into the United States Army in November of 1956.
He served his time in Italy in the 52nd Infantry.
Following his honorable discharge in 1958, John returned to work at Watertown Monument Works.
He worked there for 30 years. On June 6, 1960, John married Jeanette Borns in Madison, SD. John enjoyed working on his lawn, having coffee with his friends, helping his children and taking care of his grandpuppies.
His pride and joy were his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren and his puppy, Kip. John is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Watertown, SD; his children, Jody Bull of Groton, SD, Jeff (Kim) Moes of Golf Shores, AL, and Jan Lenning of Watertown, SD; eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and four sisters. The family would like to give a special Thank You to the Prairie Lakes Hospice Staff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Martin's Lutheran Church or Prairie Lakes Hospice.
