Joy Pietz Obituary
Joy E. Pietz, age 72, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at a local care center. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church. Rev. Steve Anderson will officiate. Music will be provided by Vicki Krucker as organist with Lehla Pietz as soloist. The family is requested to meet by 10:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Friday from 5-7 p.m. and also prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Joy was born on January 22, 1947, to George and Lena (Burma) Mawhinney, in Wessington Springs, SD. She attended high school at Wessington Springs. In 1965, Joy was united in marriage to Darryl Pietz. They lived in various communities in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota building churches. After the couple moved to Watertown, Joy worked at Hunters Grocery Store. She then started working at Hy-Vee from their initial opening until her retirement there from the meat department. She most recently was working at Kleins.
She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. Joy enjoyed crafting and visiting with her friends. Her most special times were spent with her family.
Joy is survived by her husband, Darryl of Watertown, SD; her children: Michele (Del) DeWall of Castlewood, SD, Dion Pietz (Ginger Selchert) of Watertown, SD and Derrick (Angela) Pietz of Apple Valley, MN; and six grandchildren: Joshua and Tyler Pietz, Benjamin, Alek, Grace and Emma DeWall.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Elizabeth DeWall.
