What To Do
Juanita “Nita” C. (Mrs. Darrell) Johnson, age 85, of Watertown, SD, passed away June 3, 2018, at a local care center. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. Pastor Scott Dempster and Pastor Marilyn Spurrell will officiate. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Nita’s grandchildren.
Nita was born on April 9, 1933, in Watertown, SD, to Merrill and Lucille (Hartman) Allen. She attended and graduated from Watertown High School in 1951. Nita then attended two years of Bethyl Bible Study.
On December 28, 1950, Nita married Darrell Johnson in Watertown, SD. The couple made their home in Watertown where Nita devoted her entire life to raising her children and caring for her husband. She also taught bible studies through the Methodist Church which was very important to her. She lifted the spirits of everyone with her caring smile. Nita was always passionate about getting her classmates together for their school reunions.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. Nita had a love for ‘Cabbage Patch’ dolls and would host Mother’s Day lunches where she would speak of these dolls. She also loved flowers, gardening and taking care of her lawn.
Nita is survived by her husband, Darrell, of Watertown; five sons: Randy (Leanne) Johnson of Watertown, Kurt Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Roger (Connie) Johnson of Watertown, Mark (Lori) Johnson of Melbourne, FL, and Frank Johnson of Watertown; four daughters: Cheryl (Michael) Korbel of Willow Lake, SD, Cindy (Martin/Madeline) Marquardt of Denver, CO, Carolyn (Bill) Ware of Grimes, IA, and Connie (Jay) Lanfier of Watertown; 27 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Nita was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Zachary Michael; her parents; and one brother, Charles Allen.
