Lynne Rick Obituary

Lynne M. Rick, age 62, of Yankton, SD, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at her residence. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Watertown. Father Michael Wensing will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Blaine Martian and Judy Everson as vocalists and Jane Rokusek as organist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.

Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and prior to the services at the church on Friday. There will also be a Scripture Wake service on Thursday, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynne's grandchildren: Hannah Rick, Molly Rick, Caleb Rick, Samuel Rick, Emily Johnson, Abby Johnson, Natalie Johnson, Andrew Rick, Mason Luke, and Grace Rick. Active pallbearers will be: Larry Cole, Joel Johnson, Corey Luke, Ben Ries, Paul Krzeszowski, and Scott Rick.

Lynne was born on February 7, 1956 in Watertown, SD to Harold and Cynthia (Zink) Ries. Lynne married Keath Rick on May 19, 1973 at Holy Name Catholic Church. She graduated from Harmony Hill High School in 1974.

Together, they would live and raise their children in Watertown. In 1995, Lynne graduated from Dakota State University in Madison, SD. She moved to Sioux Falls to teach at Tri-Valley before teaching in Norfolk, NE. Lynne and Keath later moved to Yankton where she worked as an Autism Specialist for the State of South Dakota until her retirement in 2008. Lynne served on the Governor's Family Support Council and was a SD Advocate for Change. She was an instructor for Life Course in the region and also coached for the Special Olympics.

Lynne was passionate about special education. Her hobbies included quilting, drawing, creating art, and sewing. She also loved to travel, laugh hard and have a good time, and spend time with her grandchildren.

Lynne is survived by her husband, Keath, of Yankton, SD; her children: Christopher (Jolene) Rick, of Milbank, SD, Maggie (Joel) Johnson, of Ortonville, MN, Sarah Rick, of Yankton, SD, and Elizabeth (Corey) Rick-Luke, of Hartford, SD; 10 grandchildren; and her sister, Gail Ries, of Sioux Falls, SD.

Lynne was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Cynthia, and one brother, Jerry.

The family prefers memorials to the Yankton Special Olympics.
