Marilyn J. Reyelts, age 83, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Rudolph Reyelts. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday March 4, 2018, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. Rev. Paul Janke will officiate. Music will be provided by Brian Goens as soloist accompanied by Rachel Wendler. The family is requested to meet at the church by 2:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Sunday.
Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will include staff from the ‘Wrage Unit' at Jenkins Living Center and Edgewood Senior Living. Active pallbearers will be Marilyn's grandchildren: Brandon Doschadis, Tyler Doschadis, Amy Jones, Alyssa Christensen, Andrea Eden, Brent Ruedebusch, Brady Gudgel and Zachary Gudgel.
Marilyn was born on June 6, 1934, at Summit, SD, to Glen and Etta (Arff) Cotten. She grew up on the family farm near Summit where she attended rural elementary school and graduated from Summit High School in 1952. Following graduation, Marilyn was employed at the bank in Summit.
On October 24, 1954, Marilyn married Rudolph Reyelts in Corona, SD. They were blessed with five children who all grew up on the farm in Springdale Township, near Wilmot, SD. Together, the family farmed the land and raised cattle.
In 1974, Marilyn began employment as a nurse's aide at the Wilmot Care Center in Wilmot. Rudolph and Marilyn moved to Watertown in 1994, where she continued her career at Memorial Nursing Home until her retirement in 1999. Marilyn moved to Edgewood Senior Living in October of 2014. In 2016, she transferred to the ‘Wrage Unit' at Jenkins Living Center where she resided until her death.
Marilyn is survived by her four children: Mike Reyelts of Eagan, MN, Cindy (Jerry) Ruedebusch of Watertown, Kathy (Mike) Doschadis of Inver Grove Heights, MN and Valerie (Paul) Gudgel of Park River, ND; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sandra (Roger) Knox of Sioux Falls, SD, and Linda Morton and her significant other, Mel Schuchard, of Milbank, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph, on January 14, 2006; one son, Leslie; one grandson, Travis Doschadis; her parents; and four brothers: Merwin, Larry, David and Ronald.
