Maxine J. Ohnstad, 92, of Watertown, formally of Summit, SD, transitioned to her home in heaven on October 11, 2018.
A celebration of her life will be Monday, Oct. 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD. Rev. Janet Miller will officiate.
Music will be provided by Darla Anderson as organist with Deverne and Janet Rickard as vocalists. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 14th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and also prior to the service on Monday.
Burial will be at Lebanon Lutheran Church Cemetery, Ortley SD. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Maxine's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be: Richard Robinson, Melvin Reeves, Eldean Poel, Mark Ohnstad, Jerry Olson and Spencer Poel.
Maxine was born November 1, 1925, to John & Tena (Knudson) Bronson of Summit. She attended Lura township country school for the First and Second grades.
She completed her education at Summit High School.
Maxine worked in Watertown at the International Harvester Company as a telephone & telegraph operator.
She was united in marriage to Carroll T. Ohnstad of Florence, SD on October 11, 1947, at Summit Lutheran Church.
They farmed in the Summit area until Carroll passed away due to a farming accident in 1993.
Maxine moved to Watertown in 1994.
At the time of her passing she was a resident at a local care facility.
Maxine was a housewife and homemaker while raising her four children.
She worked at the Wilmot nursing home in the 1970s.
She was a self-taught pianist, an excellent cook, baker, and seamstress. She was a 4-H leader for several years.
She volunteered with the Hospice Program after moving to Watertown.
Maxine enjoyed playing cards with her mother, husband and her many friends in Watertown.
Maxine was a devout Christian who appreciated all of her blessings.
Maxine was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Summit Lutheran Church (Hope Lutheran Church). She taught Sunday school, Bible school, and served as an officer of the Ladies Aid. As a young adult, she sang solos and continued to share her musical gifts as a member of the church choir.
Dozens of Lutheran World Relief quilts were cut, sewn and tied by Maxine.
She will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Karen and husband, Richard Robinson of Beardstown, IL, their 2 daughters, Rashana (Jason) Wells, and daughter Khloe of Jacksonville, IL; Melissa (Aaron) Scott and son Cooper of Jacksonville, IL; Pamela and husband Melvin Reeves of Watertown, SD, their daughter, Jackie Reeves of Yankton, SD, sons, Todd (Lisa) Reeves of Yankton, SD, Kim Reeves of AZ, 3 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and 7 step great-great grandchildren;

of Aberdeen, SD,
their son, Spencer (Mackenzie) Poel of Aberdeen, SD, and their children, Gracelynn, Carrington and Bronson; and son, Mark and wife Tammy Ohnstad of Watertown, SD,
their son, Ryan (Amanda) Ohnstad of Sierra Vista, AZ, and children, Owen and Ava.; sisters-in-law, Wilma Lien and Gladys Bates; brother-in-law, Alton Hillesland, and many nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; her parents, John and Tena;, her sister, Irene Olson; 7 brothers-in-law, and 7 sisters-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be directed to the Lebanon Cemetery Fund.
