Melvin Carlson Obituary
Melvin F. Carlson, age 83, of Lake Norden, SD, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Steve Biswell will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the chapel from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service.
Burial will be at Badger Cemetery, Badger, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Melvin's "Freeway" Boys.
Melvin was born on October 2, 1934, to Ragnar "Tom" and Betty (Lilijegren) Carlson, in rural Erwin, SD.
On November 15, 1959, Melvin was united in marriage to Carmelita "June" Vargason in Arlington, SD. The couple moved to Watertown where he worked at Reany's Service Station and Ernie O'Briens Service. In 1968 Melvin started Magic Mile Freeway, later changing the name to Mel's Auto Service. He retired in 1999.
Melvin is survived by his wife, June, of Lake Norden, SD; his brother, Floyd (Norma) Carlson, of Lake Norden, SD; his sister, Dorothy (Bud) Strande, of Lake Preston, SD; his sister-in-law, Joann Carlson, of Brookings, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeVerne (Ole) and LeRoy (Spark); and two sisters, Delores (Dean) Menzel and Vera (Gene) Thomas.
