What To Do
Richard J. Boettcher, age 81, of Florence, SD, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Steve Anderson will officiate. The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Wednesday.
There will be no burial. Military Honors will be provided by the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion of Watertown and the Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard.
Richard was born on July 14, 1937, in Aberdeen, SD, to John and Minnie (Reinbolt) Boettcher. He graduated and then enlisted in the United States Army in December of 1955 and was honorably discharged in December of 1958. He was employed for Northwestern Sheet and Iron for over twenty five years and also worked for Codington County and the meat packing plant. Richard farmed at the family homestead and established a family owned gravel pit.
Richard’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping and playing cards.
Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia; his two sons, Marty and Clifford from a previous marriage to Carla Jenkins; eight stepchildren: Ken Simonton, Sam Simonton, Tim Simonton, Jody Simonton, Wade Simonton, Wes Simonton, Becky Torstenson and Andy Simonton; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie, and one brother-in-law.
