Roger Prouty Obituary

Roger C. Prouty, age 89, of Hayti, SD, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019, at the care center in Lake Norden, SD.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at New Hope Lutheran Church in rural Hayti, SD. Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate.

Music will be provided by Helen Prouty as organist with special music by Clarissa Roemen and Joseph Prouty. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at the New Hope Lutheran Church in rural Hayti, S.D. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at New Hope Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hayti, S.D.

Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Cook-Olsen Post #217 of the American Legion, Hayti, SD.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roger's granddaughters: Clarissa Roemen, Barbara Claritt, Erin Walock, Rachel Kreger and Amber Reinesch.

Active pallbearers will be Roger's grandsons: Joseph Prouty, Martin Prouty, Brandon Prouty, Jason Prouty, Tyler Fletcher and Kyle Clement. Roger was born on January 19, 1930, in Vienna, SD, to Ole and May (Shelsta) Prouty.

He attended country grade school at Opdahl #3 and graduated from Hayti High School in 1947.

In 1953, Roger was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War.

In 1955, Roger returned home and continued farming near Bryant, SD.

On June 29, 1956, Roger married Ludelle Fedt at Garfield Lutheran Church in rural Bryant, SD.

The couple made their home near Bryant and to this union 4 children were born and raised. Together they raised their family and cherished time spent with the children and grandchildren.

Roger had a love for following his kids and grandkids with their activities along with the Minnesota Twins. He will be forever remembered for his love of Christmas lights and spending a month prepping the family acreage for people from all around to come enjoy.

Roger loved to do woodworking and travel with his wife.

He was proud to say that he had traveled everywhere in the US with the only exception being Delaware.

He was a member of the Cook-Olsen Post #217 American Legion, served on several boards which included the New Hope Church, the Bryant Elevator, Opdahl Township Board along with being Hamlin County Commissioner for 12 years.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ludelle, of Hayti; three children: Denise (Tim) Fletcher of Sioux Falls, SD, Renee (Jeff) Clement of Miller, SD, Jerald (Cindy) Prouty of Bryant, SD; daughter in-law, Marcia (Tim) Prouty-Goodwin of Rapid City, SD; brother in-laws, Wayne (Marilyn) Torper and Vernon Tetzlaff; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Ole and May Prouty; son, Donald; brother, Ray Prouty and three brothers in infancy, Duane and twins Larry and Harry; sisters: Lavonne Minor, Roselyn Prouty and Loretta Tetzlaff and brother in-law Loyd Minor.

Memorials may be directed to the New Hope Cemetery in rural Hayti or charity of your choice.
