Shane Somero Obituary
Shane H. Somero, age 41, of Hazel, SD, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, from complications of a heart condition.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD.
Services will be led by Daniel Seppanen and Ivan Niemala. Music will be provided by Jana Seppanen as organist.
The family is requested to meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD, on Friday, April 19, 2019, from 4-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at the Apostolic Cemetery in Lake Norden, SD.
Pallbearers will be Mark Somero, Joe Somero, Lewis Somero, David Traffie, Tucker Somero and Clyde Somero. Shane was born on May 20, 1977, in Peterborough, NH, to Boone (Daniel) and Anne (Kulla) Somero.
He was raised in New Ipswich, NH, and moved to South Dakota in 1995.
He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1996. On February 28, 1998, Shane married his dear wife, Helen Baker, in Hayti, SD.
They lived together in rural Hazel and continued living there for all of their married life.
Shane worked in construction until settling into farm work.
He was blessed to have spent the past 19 years farming with his friends, Myron Kuhlman and Brad Jensen, in rural Hazel. Shane loved spending time with Helen and their children.
They enjoyed taking day trips to explore the surrounding areas.
His family and the farm were the loves of his life.
He was very proud of all his children. He was the best daddy and grandpa. We are so blessed and thankful to have had him as ours.
He had a special way of keeping in touch with old friends and his brothers.
He will be missed by many. Shane is survived by his wife, Helen; his 13 children: Anne Marie (20), Clyde (19), Megan (17), Bethany (15), Allison (14), Wyatt (12), Larissa (10), Clint (8), Heather (7), Jewel (5), Katie (4), Westin (2) and Lance (5 months); his grandson, Waylon (20 months); his parents, Boone (Daniel) and Anne; 13 siblings: Hank "deceased March 2019" (Cindy) Somero, Luke (Crystal) Somero, Matt (Jennifer) Somero, Gus (Sarah) Somero, Eve (Joe) Anderson, Buck (Claire) Somero, Penney (Charlie) Crawford, Jenny (Justin) Dunn, Stacey Somero, Emmy (Burdette) Baker, Paul (Lisa) Somero, Lillith Somero, Annie-Laurie (Adam) Vaillancourt and Lyra (AJ) Shiva, along with all of their families; and his in-laws, Darrel (Marjorie) Baker.
