Sally was born on June 5, 1934, to Evan and Minnie (Dahlquist) Oie, in Roseau, MN. Sally graduated from high school in 1952. She graduated from Moorhead State Teachers’ College in 1956 with a degree in Elementary Education. After teaching for one year at Wilton, ND, she moved to Aberdeen, SD, to work at the Aberdeen Medical Center. It was here where she met Ralph Richter, on a blind date, and each decided that this was not a relationship either wanted to pursue. Approximately a year later, they met again, and surprisingly, they were wrong. It WAS a relationship that would last for 44 years.
Sally married the love of her life, Ralph, on March 30, 1964, in Aberdeen, and they were blessed with two children, Marne and Randy. In 1972, Sally, Ralph and children, moved to Watertown, where Ralph opened Richter’s House of Portraits. They settled in at 421 N. Broadway, where they raised their two children and were blessed with amazing neighbors to the south. Sally helped Ralph with his photography business and for eight years worked with her good friend, Laima Brewster, at the Glacial Lakes Humane Society. Ralph passed away on March 30, 2008.
She took great pleasure in her friends, her church, crocheting, Marine Moms and every Minnesota Twins game she could watch. She enjoyed spending hours playing Aggravation with Blake, Bryce and her friends. Her devoted dog and friend, Miss Molly, brought great joy and happiness to her life.
Sally is survived by her children, Marne (Bruce) Hult of Watertown and Randy (Tonya) Richter of Rogers, AR; two grandchildren, Blake (Kelsie) Hult of Omaha, NE, and Bryce Hult of Watertown; seven nephews; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her granddaughter, Emily Hult; her parents; and her siblings: Lorraine Frail, Donald Oie, Curtis Oie and Jean Olson.
Memorials may be directed to the Glacial Lakes Humane Society, the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer Youth Group and Make-A-Wish South Dakota.
