Zona Kunde Obituary
Zona C. Kunde, age 95, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020, at a local care center.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown, SD.
Rev. Kent Stillson will officiate.
Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist with Robbyn Givens as soloist.
The family is requested to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD. Zona Constance Kunde was born June 16, 1924, to Arnold and Lillie (Olson) Larsen.
She was an only child and always wished she'd had siblings.
She grew up and attended school in Strandburg, SD.
She graduated from South Shore High School in 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, Marwood Kunde, on May 23, 1942, at the Evangelical Free Church.
Marwood entered the U.S. Army in November of 1942 so Zona lived with her parents in Watertown.
After his discharge, they lived at the air base where Zona operated a small grocery store.
They moved into town in 1952 where they raised their four children.
Zona was a homemaker until the children got older.
She then worked at Herberger's and later as a kitchen aid at Grant School.
After Marwood retired in 1984, they bought a travel trailer and spent two years traveling around the country.
When they returned to Watertown, they lived several different places before moving to Benet Place.
After Marwood passed away, Zona moved to Sunchase Apartments.
She was one of the survivors that lost everything in the Sunchase fire in 2013.
She returned to Benet Place for a few years and had currently lived at Stoneybrook. She was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church and currently a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
She enjoyed having coffee and visiting with friends, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing Scrabble, reading and watching the Minnesota Twins. Survivors include her children: Jim (Joanne) Kunde of Lino Lakes, MN, Connie (Denny) Robinson of Maple Grove, MN, Julie (Dan) Jenson of Watertown, SD, and Mike (Deb) Kunde of Rogers, MN; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a step granddaughter and a step great-grandson; and a brother-in-law, Ken Kunde of Milbank, SD. Zona was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a grandson, Patrick Jenson.
