Ardell was born on July 14, 1924, to Rude and Nancy (Berg) Olson on a farm near Bryant.  She attended country grade school and graduated from Hayti High School.

On June 27, 1947, Ardell married Gerald Dede in Watertown.  They started farming and continued until 1993.  She drove a tractor getting the ground ready for planting and hauled the grain.

They had one daughter, Lana.  She married Don Greenfield and together they shared three children: Brock, Blake and Laci.  Ardell loved her grandchildren and attended all of their activities.  She made dozens of chocolate chip cookies which they loved.  When they came over for a meal she had to hide them so they wouldn’t eat them before dinner.  The grandkids were not the only ones who enjoyed her baking talents.  People always stopped by to enjoy her brownies and cakes, butter horns, sugar cookies, and fresh buns, just to name a few.

While she lived near Bryant, she was very active in the Lutheran church serving as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, choir, service circle, and ladies aid member.  In the community, Ardell was a member of the Bryant Parkview Nursing Home board and the Bryant Legion Auxiliary. They moved to Watertown in 2007 and became members of Hosanna Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Gerald of Watertown, SD; daughter, Lana (Don) Greenfield of Doland, SD; grandchildren: Brock (Kelli) of Clark, SD, Blake (Amber) of Rapid City, SD, and Laci (Tony) of Rapid City, SD; great-grandchildren: Brielle, Gavin and Shayla; sisters:  Luella (Wally) Abbott of Bismarck, ND, and Beverly (Chuck) Linneman of Watertown, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Ardell was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and four brothers.
