Arleen Nelson

Arleen Wendy Nelson, 54, formerly of Lake Preston, passed away on Friday, November 25 , 2022 at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston.  Vicar Brad Sanderson will officiate.  Music will be provided by Jodi Jensen as organist.  The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.

Visitation will be at the church in Lake Preston on Thursday prior to services.

Burial will be at Clara Lutheran Cemetery in Erwin, SD.  Active pallbearers will be Travis Clement, Nathan Clement, Troy Nelson, Trent Nelson, Cody Perkins and Zack Perkins.

Arleen was born at the Lake Preston Hospital on January 9, 1968 to Arnold and Marian Nelson of Erwin, SD.  Arnold passed away in 1977. In the Spring of 1982, Arleen and Marian moved from the farm in Erwin to Huron, SD.  In 1997, they moved back to Lake Preston where they resided until 2015. Arleen has lived in Brookings, SD since 2015.  Marian passed away in 2020.

Arleen always enjoyed listening to and singing, clapping or drumming along with music. Her time spent in the special education classroom of Mrs. Betty Meyer in Arlington was a great experience. On the farm, she had many pets over the years and was always an animal lover. She sometimes went with her dad to livestock auctions and they shared a special bond. Arleen had a keen and mischievous sense of humor and loved to play tricks on and share laughs with her family members.

When Arleen moved to Brookings, her extended family grew to include the wonderful team at Advance. Her family will always be grateful for the care and companionship she received there and enjoyed having that team as part of the family.

Arleen is survived by her brothers and sisters, Bill (Jane) Nelson of Burbank, SD, Wynn (Tim) Clement of Iroquois, SD, Wanda (Joel) Weese of Arlington, SD and Arden (Carol) Nelson of Lake Preston, SD as well as 14 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews.
