Betty G. Nelson

Betty G. Nelson, age 92, of Indianola, IA, formerly of Henry, SD, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Vintage Hills Nursing Home in Indianola, IA.  She was the widow of George "Bob" Nelson.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Henry, SD.  Father Richard Baumberger will be the celebrant.  

Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 5:00- 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be at St. Henry's Cemetery in Henry, SD.

Betty was born April 17, 1931 in Henry, SD to Elwin and Harriet Kittelson. She attended Henry High School where she met Bob (George) Nelson and later married on August 23, 1952. Betty was an avid quilter and loved to garden and bake. Betty had a love for collecting owls as well. She enjoyed fishing with her family on their vacations and taking annual trips to Minnesota. Betty always had her candy dish full of gum drops for her grandchildren to enjoy and will always be remembered for the marble birthday cakes with the birthday bear she treated her family with on their special day every year. Betty thrived as a homemaker and caregiver for those dearest to her.

Betty is survived by her sons, Dan (Deb) Nelson of Olathe, KS and Jim (Teri) Nelson of Ackworth, IA; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild with a second on the way.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, George (Bob) Nelson; her son, Scott Nelson; her parents, Elwin and Harriet Kittelson; two grandchildren, Kirk Nelson and Tyler Nelson; great-grandchild, Brayden Ilse; and six siblings.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Betty. A special acknowledgement is given to the staff at Vintage Hill Memory Care and Suncrest Hospice.
