Beverly J. “Bev” Stoltenburg, age 84, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at a local care center. She was the widow of Bernard “Butch” Stoltenburg. Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 9-11 a.m.
Burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery will follow the visitation. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Bev’s friends. Active pallbearers are: Blake Stadel, Ryan Stadel, Trevor Stoltenburg, Ashton Pelletier, Tom Ellis and Paul Stadel.
Bev was born on February 16, 1935 in Germantown Twp. to Charles and Maybelle (Williams) Kannas. At six weeks of age they moved to Rauville Twp. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Bev went to a country grade school and then attended Watertown High School.
On February 25, 1952, Bev was united in marriage to Bernard (Butch) Stoltenburg in St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. Butch was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. After he returned from Korea they lived in California until his honorable discharge. Bev was a stay-at-home mom to their five children. After they were all in school she worked part-time for Ben Franklin Dime Store and the Watertown Public Opinion.
Bev was a member of the American Postal Workers Union Auxiliary to Local #144 for 30 years and held the office of 4th Vice President of the State of S.D. for two years. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary to #750, Marine Corps League Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary to #17. Bev especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, studying the Bible, having lunch with friends and shopping.
Bev is survived by her two daughters, Jolene (Paul) Stadel of Silsbee, TX and Bernette (Tom) Ellis of Ft. Pierre, SD; three sons, Kevin (Joy) Stoltenburg of Lufkin, TX, Kyle (Lisa) Stoltenburg of Pierre, SD and Stacy Stoltenburg (special friend, Amy Anderson) of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren: Blake (Julie) Stadel of Fairfax, VA, Ryan Stadel of Cleveland Heights, OH, Ashton (Doug) Pelletier of Fergus Falls, MN and Trevor (Kelly) Stoltenburg of Pierre, SD; and five great-grandchildren: Adelaide (Ada) and Warner Stadel of Fairfax, VA, Logan Stoltenburg of Pierre, SD, and Dawson and Brianne Campbell of Pierre, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; her parents; and her brother, Leroy Kannas.
