Donna M. Bogenrief, age 93, a resident of Edgewood Assisted Living Center, Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Prairie Lakes Hospital. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Fr. Richard Fox will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Danielle Holmquist-Holida as organist with Jo Vitek and Deb Schroeder as vocalists. The service will be Live-streamed on our Crawford Osthus Face-book page. Face masks are encouraged.
Visitation will be at the church, prior to the service on Monday, from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Honorary urn bearers will be Donna's great-grandchildren. Active urn bearers will be Adam Spies, Annie Spies Maag, Eric Bogenrief and Lina Langeslay.
Donna was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lena (Lunden) Markegard. She was born on August 11, 1927, in Watertown, SD. She attended Grant Elementary and graduated from Watertown High School in 1945. On June 24, 1947, Donna was united in marriage to Daryle S. Bogenrief at Immaculate Conception Parish Rectory in Watertown. Daryle passed away on February 14, 1963.
She held many clerical positions in several different states, including South Dakota, Minnesota, Arizona, California, Virginia and Oklahoma. Donna loved to travel, play cards, do crossword puzzles and work on family genealogy. She learned to paint when she was in her late 80's, painting many pictures for her family and friends. She loved family gatherings and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donna is survived by her two sons, James (Nancy) Bogenrief of Monument, CO and Terry (Kathy) Bogenrief of Stone Lake, WI; one daughter, Gail (Ed) Spies of Watertown, SD; five grandchildren: Lina (Tim) Langeslay, Adam (Michelle) Spies, Andy (Dawn) Bogenrief, Annie (Jamie) Maag, Eric (Krista) Bogenrief; nine great-grandchildren: Aaron and Isabelle Spies, Christopher and Alex Bogenrief, Lauren and Lincoln Maag, and Bridgette, Isaac and Adelyn Bogenrief; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daryle S. Bogenrief; her grandson, Daryle J. Bogenrief; her parents, Oscar and Lena Markegard; two brothers, Merrill and Orin Markegard; and four sisters, Marian Helley, Eileen Nauman, Shirley Goodrich and her twin sister, Dorothy Michelson.
