Edward “Ed” J. Smith, age 65, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Steve Biswell will officiate. The service will be Live-Streamed and Facebook Live via the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel website.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday from 5-7 p.m.
Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Seneca, SD at a later date. Military honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the Marine Corps League-Kampeska N.E. Det. #1079, Watertown. Active pallbearers will be: Kyle Stock, Michael Smith, Richard Jensen, Josh Jensen, Chris Jensen, and Andrew Myers.
Ed was born on August 7, 1956, in Faulkton, SD, to George and Mary (Keller) (Hagemen) Smith. Ed graduated from Hoven High School. After graduation Ed went on to join the Marine Corps, and was stationed at Camp Pendleton. He was honorably discharged in 1977. Ed was a member of the American Legion for 16 years before passing.
On June 4, 1980, Ed married Barb Jenner (Geranen). To this marriage came their two sons, Nathan and Jason. In September of 1987, Ed married Robin Johnson (Young).
Ed was employed at Angus Industries for many years. After Angus, Ed went on to work at Napa for a short time before passing. He also worked many jobs before.
Ed was an avid Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees fan. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy and filling out crossword puzzles. In his free time, Ed loved dancing, playing pool, bowling, softball and playing cards.
Ed is survived by his two boys: Nathan (Andrea Knox) Smith, and Jason (Kimberly) Smith; 12 grandchildren; his sister, Elizabeth (Pat) Myers; his beautiful stepdaughter Tiffany (Kyle) Stock; and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents: George and Mary; his sister, Marge Jodzko; aunts, uncles, grandparents, and step father, Martin Hagemen.
The family is requesting casual dress or sportswear.
