Elizabeth Boik Obituary

Elizabeth (Ehrnriter) Boik, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 21 2020, surrounded by the love of family members at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Elizabeth (Betty) was born to Anthony and Ann (Halloran) Ehrnriter on November, 16, 1926.

She was born at St. John's Hospital in St. Paul, MN and was baptized at St. James Church in St. Paul.

She grew up with two sisters and two brothers. Betty attended St. Bernard's Catholic School and Washington High School in St. Paul.

She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until she moved to South Dakota

Betty married Ernest Boik on November 27, 1945 at St. Joseph's Church in Grenville, SD.

She and Ernest farmed near Grenville until 2001, when they moved to Watertown, and later to Sioux Falls. She was a proud member of the Catholic Daughters and Rosary Society.

As a loving couple, they raised nine children: Barbara Pers, Kay Boik, Elaine (Thomas) Halbkat, Bonnie (Richard) Gerriets, Tom (Bridget) Boik, Debbie (George) Dohman, Janet (Ken) Lee, Joan (Lonnie) Peterson and Laura Bradfield (Steve Meland). Performing all of the duties that were involved in farming became a family affair.

Betty loved farming and worked with her husband in the fields. She had several gardens and enjoyed canning and baking with her children.

She also loved quilting and sewing.

Loved by all who knew her, she and her sister Rosemary cooked and catered for many weddings in the area. After leaving the farm, Betty and Ernest enjoyed traveling the US and fishing.

Betty is survived by her nine children; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren who she loved and had great pride in.

She is also survived by her sister Georgia Valentine of Hugo, MN. Her family is grateful for the care that she received from the staff at Sioux Falls Good Samaritan Center. A special thank you to AseraCare Hospice for the loving care and support in her final days.

Betty will be joining beloved Ernest, her spouse, as well as many family members and friends who have passed before her to share in eternal peace.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

To know her was to love her.

For the health and safety of all, a private family burial will be held on Friday, July 24 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Watertown.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
