Eugene L. Riter, age 69, of Hayti, SD, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD. Pastor David Patterson will officiate. Music will be provided by Joan Arneson as organist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday for a family prayer service. Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Hayti on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and also prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in rural Hayti. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene's grandchildren, C- Store employees and Eugene's nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are: Chad Anderson, Dillion Riter, Niels Dam, Terry Kasten, Mike Riter and Dean "Larry" Riter. Eugene was born on November 24, 1950, to Lloyd and Margaret (Pearson) Riter, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was a 1969 graduate of Lake Norden High School. Following graduation he attended Western Technical School in Colorado. He worked in Colorado before moving back to Lake Norden. On July 2, 1977, Eugene was united in marriage to Roxanne Kastein. He worked at Lake Norden Care Center in the maintenance department, Davisco in Lake Norden and later Medallion Homes. He returned back to work at Davisco and was currently working part-time at the Cenex C-Store in Lake Norden. Eugene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and he was a volunteer with the Fire Department in Lake Norden. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was always willing to help anyone with anything. Eugene was a very hard worker. His special moments were spent with his family. Eugene is survived by his children: Amy Riter (Niels Dam) of Watertown, SD, Travis Riter (Tonia Seidell) of Hayti, SD, and Darian (Misty) Riter of Henry, SD; six grandchildren: Jasmine, Dawson, Carson, Katrina, Teagan and Danicka; his father, Lloyd Riter of Watertown, SD; two brothers, Mike (Teresa) Riter and Dean "Larry" (Cita) Riter, both of Watertown, SD; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxanne; his mother, Margaret; and his brother, Randy.
