Gordon was born on November 27, 1925, in LaBolt, SD, to Sam and Nellie (Johnson) Seim. He attended LaBolt School through tenth grade and graduated from Strandburg High School in 1943.
After graduating, he entered the U.S. Navy and served his country as a navy aviator until 1946.
After his honorable discharge, he owned and operated Johnson and Seim Hardware in LaBolt. On June 16, 1950, Gordon and Carol (Berg) were united in marriage and relocated to Huntington Park, California, where he worked for his uncle as property manager before moving to Orange, California, where he was employed by Myer's Electric Products as a tool and die maker.
Gordon was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church of LaBolt, gave his life to Jesus at the LaBolt Covenant Church, attended Orange Covenant Church in Orange, CA for 25 years, and was an active member of the Wesleyan Church of Watertown. He had a strong faith in Christ, read his Bible daily, and actively prayed with his faithful wife every day for each family member. They recited Psalm 23 and John 3:16 every night before bed.
Gordon was first and foremost a husband, dad, grandpa and papa. His passion was woodworking but there wasn't much he couldn't do. Gordon enjoyed spending time at his son's woodshop, gardening and watching and playing sports. He played baseball for LaBolt and in the Navy. He was also a great croquet player.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Carol, of 70 years, of Watertown; his four children: LuAnn (Gary) Jacobsen of Clark, SD, Brian (Laura) Seim of Hazel, SD, Alan (Dawn) Seim of Watertown, SD, and Ronald (Kim) Seim of Bentonville, AR; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Nellie; his brother, Luverne; his sisters, Mildred, Violet and Lillian; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed towards Gordon's family at 108 Smith St. Clark, SD 57225
