Harlan Williams Obituary
Harlan C. Williams, age 92, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at a care facility in Clark, SD.
Private family funeral services will at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD.
Pastor Mark Tracy will officiate. Public walk-thru visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Saturday, November 21, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Masks are highly recommended. Burial will take place at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harlan's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harlan was born on November 1, 1928, in Watertown, SD, to George W. and Helen E. (Dahlstrom) Williams.
He attended school in Watertown and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946.
He was stationed in Japan during WWII after the bomb dropped.
He was honorably discharged in 1947. On August 3, 1948, Harlan married Dona George in Watertown.
The couple resided in Watertown where Harlan drove truck for Chickasha hauling mobile homes.
He logged over one million miles.
After he retired, Harlan began delivering cars for local dealerships.
He worked until he was 85 years old. Harlan was a lifetime member of the VFW.
He enjoyed dirt track racing at Casino Speedway and in his younger years raced a modified race car.
He enjoyed doing small engine repairs.
Harlan was a jokester with a truck driver sense of humor. Harlan is survived by his children: Steven (Debbie) Williams of Troy, AL, Jeannie Brenden (Keath Rick) of Yankton, SD, Michael (Julie) Williams of Watertown, SD, Danny Williams of Clark, SD, and Sherry (Dale) Swanson of Clark, SD; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Georgia Sears of Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dona; his parents, George and Helen; two children; and his brothers and sisters.
