Henry A. Haan, age 87, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020, at Avantara Care Center. A Private Family Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg, SD. Father Ken Koster will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Eileen Lindner as organist with LeRoy Mack as soloist.

A PUBLIC drive-thru visitation will take place on Friday, April 17, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Kranzburg. Active pallbearers will be: Alex Haan, Jason Haan, Damon Haan, Jacob Raml, Jordan Raml, Jay Parmely and Brian Aker.

Henry was born on June 30, 1932, to Carl and Dorothy (Wiederhold) Haan, at their home, just south of Kranzburg. He attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from Goodwin High School in 1950. Immediately following graduation, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served on the flight deck of the USS Monterey.

On November 29, 1952, Henry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Edith "Dolly" Cox, in Kranzburg. They made their home in Pensacola, FL until returning to Kranzburg in 1953. Henry worked for Swift & Co., was a partner with his brother, Jack, in the Tip Top, and later owned Haan's Standard Service. In the fall of 1965, health issues forced him to sell the business. He then attended WBU where he received a degree in Accounting. He was employed at Hubbard Farm Store, Moe Equipment and TSC before retiring from Pollard International.

Henry was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where he served as altar boy, lecturer and greeter. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He belonged to the American Legion, the VFW and DAV Chapter 6, where he served as Chapter Commander. He was later honored by having the Chapter named after him.

Henry will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather, proud patriot and U.S. Navy Veteran. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Henry is survived by one son, Brian (Linda) Haan of Watertown, SD; three daughters, Peggy (Harold) Raml and Jean (Rod) Parmely, all of Watertown, SD and Joan (Rick) Payne of Overland Park, KS; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Haan of Baltic, SD; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl (Norma) Haan; two sisters, Dottie (Larry) Meyer and Carol (William) Srstka, all of Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters-in-law, Lou Haan of Watertown, SD, Margaret (LeRoy) Kilber of Webster, SD and Dorothy (Les) Odoms of Weiser, ID; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly, one son, Henry "Alex" Jr., and his parents.
