Howard Ostlund passed away on December 9, 2020 at the age of 91 years and 9 months. Private family services were held. He was born February 23, 1929 to Emil and Elsie (Hedman) Ostlund in Watertown, SD. His father, Emil, was a World War 1 veteran. Howard grew up on a farm near Strandburg, SD, went to school in Stockholm and Strandburg before moving to Watertown in 1946. He joined the Navy in 1951 and was discharged in 1955. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion, was Post Commander and executive board member and was on the Honor Guard.
In 1956 he married Levka Groskreutz. They have two children, Sheryl and Craig. He had a few jobs- pulling mobile homes, did home repair work with a partner, Marv Dunn and bought the Zesto Drive Inn with his wife in 1986. After selling the Zesto in 1998 he then worked for Soil Conservation for 10 years. He finally retired at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Levka; daughter Sheryl Ostlund of Rochester, MN and son Craig (Teresa) of Richland, WA; 4 grandchildren- Jessica Sawvell of Rochester, MN, Matthew (Megan) Ostlund of Knoxville, TN, Chrystal Ostlund of Watertown, SD and Dalton Ristau of Chatfield, MN; 3 great grandsons- Dylan, Zack and Jordan; a sister Genevieve Hanson of Florida and 4 sibling-in-laws.
His parents preceded him in death.
