Imo was born to Adolph and Gertrude Mohr on September 12th, 1951. Imo was impatient even at birth, as she was born in the car on the way to the hospital in Ipswich, SD. Imo grew up the early years of her life on a farm outside Hosmer, SD, where she attended a one room schoolhouse. Just before high school her family moved off the farm to the town of Eureka, SD. After high school, Imo went to college in Huron, SD for a semester and after that she transferred to WBU in Watertown, SD, where she went to school for business accounting and computer programming.
Imo met her husband Paul in 1970 at WBU, where they were both in college for computers. They married in 1971 in Eureka South Dakota and went on to have 2 children, Barry and Christy. Imo and Paul stayed in Watertown after college and in 1977 they purchased their first and only house, that they still are in today. Imo worked many years as a soderer-on circuit boards, loved bowling on both women’s league and mixed doubles with Paul. Imo loved playing games, but especially loved finding a good pinochle partners to help her to beat Paul. Imo has 4 grandchildren (Carson, Brianna, Justine and Cassandra) who she loved going to North Dakota to spend time with. Imo bled Minnesota Vikings thru and thru, purple also being her favorite color. She enjoyed her quarter bets with Paul on who was going to win each football game. She was also a NASCAR fanatic, she loved picking on her son and grandson every time Kyle Busch would finish in a better position than their favorite drivers.
One of Imo’s greatest accomplishments is that she graduated from LATI in 2004 with an associate degree in Financial Services. This was extra special for her because she did this after she was 50 years old. She graduated the same year her son Barry got his associates degree and daughter Christy got her bachelor’s degree, so it was a big party at Derby Downs. Imo then got her dream job working at Great Western Bank in the check processing division, she did this job until they moved the division to Sioux Falls, SD. Towards retirement Imo started quilting, making a special quilt for each of her grandchildren when they graduated from high school. She always had a passion for crafting and giving her loved ones the gifts she created with her hands. She always enjoyed traveling and after retirement dreamed about each of the next trips that her and Paul would go on. They would take bus tours and found a group of bus tour friends that they loved going on these trips with. Imo loved their trip to Jamaica and Hawaii the most because they made the trips with her sister and brother-in-law.
Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
Imo joins Adolph and Gertrude Mohr, Paul and Eleanor Schmahl, Adrian Schmahl, Sandy Schmahl in Heaven.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Schmahl; her children, Barry (Jacquelyne) Schmahl and Christy Schmahl; her grandchildren, Carson, Brianna, Justine and Cassandra Schmahl; her brother, Jerome (Joanne) Mohr; and her sister, Sharron Kay (Willard) Hieb.
