Obituary

James “Jim” J. Weyh, age 78, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 at a local care center. A Funeral Mass will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown, SD. Father Richard Fox will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Helen Gollnick as organist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. for a family prayer service. A social for friends and family of Jim will be held at the Legion in Watertown, SD after the Funeral.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and prior to the services at the church on Thursday.

Burial will be at the I.C. Cemetery in rural Waubay, SD at 4:45 p.m. Pallbearers will be Dennis Weyh, Jeff Dargatz, Brian Dargatz, Dion Dargatz, David Dargatz, Mike Dargatz, Greg Dargatz, Josh Dargatz, Mark Birney and Alan Birney.

Jim was born on February 21, 1942 in Waubay, SD to Frank Sr. and Leona (Lauseng) Weyh. He attended Waubay Country School District 206 and then went on to work at the Florence Elevator in Florence, SD. He married Janet Olson on February 19, 1962 and the couple later divorced. At the time, Jim operated Jim’s Place in Waubay, SD. On September 18, 1976 he married Diane Ries and later divorced. Jim started his career as a Production Operator at Minnesota Rubber on July 11, 1968, which he was very devoted to.

On October 7, 1989 Jim married Carol Zubke at Zion Lutheran Church in Waubay, SD. The couple continued living on his acreage outside of Watertown, SD. He retired from Minnesota Rubber on February 21, 2004. Jim enjoyed his life on the farm with his family and loved his hobbies during his retirement. Afterwards he resided at Jenkins Living Center on December 20, 2019.

Jim was a member of IC Church and also a member of the Machinist Union where he served as a shop foreman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Jim also loved collecting stamps, coins and hunting for artifacts.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carol of Watertown, SD; his children: Jackie (Kelly) Mahlen, James Weyh, Jr., Jarold (Donna) Weyh, Jason (Jeanette) Weyh, Jared (Mary) Weyh, Josh Weyh, Amy (Lance) Rambow, Angie Weyh, Travis Weyh (Fiancé, Megan Simon) and Lukas Weyh; his faithful dog companion Bo; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and his sisters; Mona Mikkelson, Dorothy Dargatz, Sylvia (Dickie) Dargatz and Patty (Royce) Birney.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Leona; his brother, Frank Jr.; his sister, Blanche Weyh; and his daughter-in-law, Kathy Weyh.
