Jowaine "Joie" J. Bevers, age 88, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the local hospital. She was the widow of Gerald Bevers. Private family services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Fr. John Fischer will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Abby Kwasniewski, Michelle Kennedy and Nicole Kennedy as vocalists. The service will be Live-Streamed on our website and Facebook Live.
Private visitation will be prior to the service.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson. Active pallbearers will be Kyle Bevers, Brandon Guffin, Jacob Sigurdson, Teven Sigurdson, Andrew Riggin and Josh Tracy.
Joie was born on August 15, 1932, to Roy and Treva (Heller) Anderson, at Labolt, SD. She was a 1950 graduate of Revillo High School. She graduated from Northern State Teachers College in 1952 and started teaching in Troy, SD.
On June 23, 1953, Joie was united in marriage to Gerald Bevers. The couple moved to Watertown and farmed SW of Watertown for many years. After Gerald passed away on February 9, 1989, she stayed on the farm for many years, moving to Watertown in 2016.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Grover and later attended Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. She loved doing needle work, reading, and mowing the lawn on the farm. She loved her flower garden and rock gardens. However, her greatest joy was spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joie is survived by her children, Dennis Bevers of Ft. Pierre, SD, Jerry (Susan) Bevers of San Jose, CA, Joseph (Janet) Bevers of Watertown, SD, Jill (Jody) Kennedy of Garland, TX, Dana Bevers of Watertown, SD, Dawn (Ross) Petersen of DeSmet, SD and Joy (Mark) Tracy of Clark, SD; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Denniss (Geraldine) Anderson of Custer, SD; and one sister, Jacqueline "Jackie" (James) Sterry of Abita Springs, LA.
She was proceeded in death by her husband; her parents; and her sister and brother-in-law, Cleone and Merlin Spiering.
