LaVerne B. “Larry” Stricherz, age 77, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020, at the local hospital. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Church. Fr. Richard Fox will be the Celebrant. Music will be provided by JoAnn Comes as organist with the St. Joseph Choir. The family is requested to meet at the church by 9:30 a.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. with a Scripture Wake Service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday, prior to the service.
Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Waverly, SD. Active pallbearers will be: Zach Stricherz, Caleb Stricherz, Eric Stricherz, Brent Stricherz, Kevin Stricherz and Jesse Barthel.
Larry was born on February 9, 1943, to Bernard and Irene (Raml) Stricherz, in Watertown, SD. He attended school through the eighth grade. After his father’s death, Larry took over the family farm and helped his mother raise his siblings. On June 2, 1967, Larry was united in marriage to Barb Sotka in Watertown. The couple continued living and working on the farm, milking cows for over 40 years. He and Barb always had their children and many nieces and nephews around the farm. Larry was very proud to have been recognized as a Century Farm, being there for 129 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He loved riding his four wheeler and his convertible and he enjoyed collecting Henry rifles. Larry’s family, his children, grandchildren and his nieces and nephews were his life.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barb, of Watertown; his children: Chris (Tami) Stricherz, Clyde Stricherz and Cary Stricherz, all of Watertown, SD; 5 grandchildren: Zach (fiancé Brooke Husmann), Mallory (Brent) Zemlicka, Caleb (girlfriend, Dacey Veflin), Sidney and Annie; three brothers: LeRoy (Florence) Stricherz of Revillo, SD, Steve Stricherz of Watertown, SD, Pat (Lori) Stricherz of LaBolt, SD, and Jeff (Rochelle) Stricherz of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Lana (Elwood) Phelps of Redwood Falls, MN and Diane Flemming of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Stan, and his brother-in-law, Ron Flemming.
