Leo Klucas Obituary

Leo I. Klucas, age 70, of Florence, SD, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2020, at the local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Jodi Engels will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist with Mike Morgan as soloist. The service will be Live-Streamed on our website. The family is requested to be at the chapel by 1:30 p.m. on Thursday for a family prayer service. Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and also prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard. Active pallbearers are: Curtis Fick, Jaydon Fick, Matthew Hauck and Jacob Moes. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Bakken, Gary Biberdorf, Dave Maag, Mark Maag, Gordy Nesheim, Larry Stevens and coworkers from FCC. Leo Isreal Klucas was born July 19, 1949, to Donald and Marie (Freeseman) Klucas in Watertown, SD. He attended country school in Thomas and graduated from Henry, SD. After high school he enlisted in the US Army where he was stationed in Korea. He was united in marriage to Karen Kay Blocker July 7th, 1973, at Lutheran Church of our Redeemer in Watertown, SD.

The couple started their life in Henry, SD, and later moved to Florence, SD, where they raised three daughters: Holly, Marcia and Katie. Leo worked for various farmers until settling in at the Florence Farmers Elevator as a custom applicator. He retired in 2018. In Leo's younger years he enjoyed playing pool, fishing and trail riding. In his free time he also liked watching western movies and relaxing at the farm. One of his biggest joys was camping with family and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of New Helgen Lutheran Church and the Watertown American Legion Post #17. Leo is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, Holly (Curtis) Fick of Watertown, SD, and Katie (Matthew) Hauck of Tyndall, SD; nine grandchildren: Jaydon, Josline, Jase, Kade, Emy, Olivia, Nash, Everly and Gabby; his brother, Roderick (Robyn) Klucas of Umatilla, OR; his sister, Sylvia (Charles) Howard of Milan, MN; and his son-in-law, Jacob (Julie) Moes of Kranzburg, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marcia Moes; one brother, Dale; and one sister, Hazel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to the American Legion Post #17: P.O. Box 292, Watertown, SD 57201, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at: CFF Minnesota, 100 N. 6th St., Suite 604 A, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
