Lou Ann Caulfield, age 94, of Watertown, SD, and formerly of Bradley, SD, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at a care facility in Florence, SD.
Private family graveside services will be held at Prairie Hill Cemetery in Bradley, SD. Urnbearers will be all of Lou Ann's grandchildren: Jody (Ted) Obermeier, James (Ann) Caulfield, Ryan (Erica) Caulfield, Ben Caulfield, Eric Caulfield and Kristin Outtrim. Lou Ann was born in Bryant, SD, to Alfred and Thora (Berg) Hanson on December 25, 1925.
She attended grade school at Hamlin County rural schools and Lake Norden Public School.
She graduated from Bryant High School in 1943.
After graduating she went to California and then went to College at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington.
She then taught in rural schools in Hamlin and Kingsbury Counties.
Later, she worked at the Citizens State Bank (Dacotah Bank) for 33 years. She married Merlin L. Caulfield on May 29, 1947.
The couple spent most of their married life in Bradley, SD, where they both worked at the local bank.
They had two children, Jerry and Jim.
Merlin passed away in 1993.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bradley.
She also belonged to the Judith Circle and the American Legion Auxillary of Bradley.
She enjoyed playing cards with friends and cheering on the Minnesota Twins. Lou Ann is survived by her two sons, Jerry Caulfield (Patricia) of Watertown, SD, and Jim (Beckie) Caulfield of Bradley, SD; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and one step great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Alvina Larson of Poulsbo, WA, and Alice (Dan) Jacobson of Sioux Falls, SD; her sisters-in-law: Lynn Hanson of Aberdeen, SD, Del Caulfield of Watertown, SD, and Doris Caulfield of Brandon, SD; and her brother-in-law, Lee Ingalls of Reserve, NM. Lou Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; her brothers: Wayne, Edward, James and Ted Hanson; and her sisters: Vida Colvin, Alma Ingalls, Rose Engen and Helen Matz.
