Lou Ellen Johnson, age 99, of Sioux Falls, SD, and a former Hayti, SD, resident, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020, in Sioux Falls, SD. A private family graveside service will be held. Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate.
Burial will be at the West Norden Cemetery in rural Hayti, SD.
Lou Ellen was born on March 22, 1921, to Sig and Goldie (Berguson) Opdahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Hayti Lutheran Church. Lou Ellen attended Hayti grade school and graduated from Hayti High School in 1939. She was the manager of the ASCS office in Hayti for 37 years. She married Floyd Johnson in 1942, and they resided on a farm four miles east of Hayti. They were blessed with three daughters.
They resided on the farm until Floyd’s death in 1997, and then Lou Ellen moved to Hayti. In 2008, she moved to her present home in Prairie Creek Retirement Home in Sioux Falls. She was very active in her church and Extension Club and enjoyed dancing, quilting, playing cards, Wii bowling and of course, feeding her birds.
Lou Ellen is survived by her three daughters: Cherry (Cory) Beck of Sioux Falls, SD, Margo (Daryl) Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Crystal (Ken) Gamradt of Brookings, SD; and five grandchildren: Jade Anderson, Jon Anderson, Charles Anderson, Jason Johnson and Marissa Gamradt; and nine great-grandchildren.
Lou Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents, Sig and Goldie; her sister, Nona Amerson; and her grandson, Marc Beck.
