Mary Steffen Obituary
Mary Ellen Steffen, age 73, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at the local hospital. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Reverend Jen Tyler will officiate. The memorial service will be live-streamed and on Facebook Live under the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel Facebook page.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service. Masks are recommended for both the memorial service and the visitation per family's request.
Mary Ellen Hartley was born on December 13, 1946, to Gerald and Cleo (Nichols) Hartley, in Watertown, SD. She attended school in Clark, SD, and graduated from Clark High School in 1964. She was united in marriage to Michael Steffen on January 10, 1965. The couple made their home in Watertown, SD, where Mary was employed at Woolworths for many years. She was also a supervisor for UPS, as well as the owner and operator of The Basket Shop & Something Special in downtown Watertown. She was employed by Angus Palm prior to her retirement in 2013.
She had a love for horses and trail rides. She also enjoyed camping and spending time with her family.
Mary was known for her strength, courage, and grace.
She loved to laugh and was always smiling.
Mary is survived by her husband, Michael of Watertown, SD; one daughter, Susan Steffen, of Watertown, SD; and one grandson, Tanner Steffen of Brookings, SD.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Cleo.
