Mavis Fossum Obituary
Mavis Fossum, age 91, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at a care center in Redfield, SD. Graveside services will be Friday, August 28, at 10:30. Jim Keller will officiate.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday, August 27 from 5-7.
Burial will be at the Garden City Cemetery. Honorary Urnbearers will be all of her nieces and nephews.
Mavis Maxine Keller was born on November 7, 1928, to Ed and Myrtle (Phelps) Keller, in Badger, SD. In 1940, the family moved to Wallace, SD, where Mavis graduated from Wallace High School in 1946. On April 24, 1949, she married George Carson. The couple began their life together in Omaha and Polk, NE where George worked for the railroad.
They returned to South Dakota in 1959 when George became the Depot Agent in Bradley, SD.
In 1963, Mavis and her family moved to Clark where she helped George manage and operate Clark Electric Service. In 1978, after the loss of her husband, she moved to the Carson family farm with her son.
She worked at Dakota Quilts in Webster for a short while and then worked for Mid Tex in Watertown, SD before retiring.
Mavis was united in marriage to Ralph Fossum on December 2, 1994. After his passing, she moved to Watertown, SD, where she lived until entering the care center.
In her early years, Mavis enjoyed crocheting and sewing and sewed all her own clothes.
After retiring, she took up ceramics and golfing and enjoyed attending area dances and spending time at the cabin on Blue Dog Lake.
Mavis is survived by her son, Terry (Terri) Carson of Bradley, SD; sisters-in-law: Carol and Mary Keller of Wallace, SD; nephews: Jim (Lori) Keller, Webster, SD, Al (Janice) Keller, Wayne (Jan) Keller, Neal (Deb) Keller and Ross (Chris) Keller, of Wallace, SD; Dale Keller of Pelham, AL; nieces: Cheryl (Jim) Knutson of Florence, SD, and Lisa (Rod) Clausen of Clark, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and two brothers: Vernon and Eudale Keller.
