Roger Casper Obituary

Roger Warren Casper, age 75, of Badger, SD, formerly Lake Preston, SD, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, in Badger, SD.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019, at Badger Lutheran Church in Badger, SD. Pastor David Patterson will be officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel of Watertown, SD.

Music will be provided by Joan Nelson as organist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 9:30 a.m. for a family prayer service.

Visitation will be at Badger Lutheran Church on Sunday, September 15, 2019, from 5 - 7 p.m. and prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the Trinity Church Cemetery, rural Oldham, SD.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Jared Timmer, Mara Timmer, Brandon Timmer, Kayla Kaasa and Kara Kaasa.

Active pallbearers will be: Darren Hoyer (nephew), Chad Hoyer (nephew), Jon Casper (nephew), Travis Guderian, Tony Welbig and Robbie Wilson.

Roger was born on December 31, 1943, to Oscar and Nettie (Nelson) Casper in Volga, SD.

On January 20, 1967, Roger married Virginia Josephson in Bryant. Born into this union were Christina, Troy and Audra.

The couple farmed south of Lake Preston, SD, until moving to Badger, SD, in 1984. Roger began working for his brother-in-law, Roger Hoyer.

Roger drove semi for many years for H&I Trucking of Hetland, SD, with his dog, Sasha, by his side.

In 2000, his wife Virginia passed away.

In 2004, he met Rose Guderian and helped to raise her children (whom he called "his other kids") Kasey, Kayla and Travis.

In 2005, Roger and Rose welcomed their son, Hunter.

After retiring Roger looked forward to driving truck for Warren and Paul Casper during the fall harvest.

He loved to restore and work on old cars, pickups and tractors, collecting many, many things that he called "goodies", and especially his red and black Dodge pickup.

He was very proud of his seven children, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his companion, Rose Guderian of Badger, SD; his children: Christina (Randy) Timmer of Watertown, SD, Troy (Lisa) Casper of Arlington, SD, Audra (Larry) Kaasa of Watertown, SD, Hunter Casper of Badger, SD, Kasey Welbig of Colton, SD, Kayla Strutz of Watertown, SD, and Travis Guderian of Watertown, SD; one brother, David (Roxann) Casper of Lake Preston, SD; two sisters, Carol (Arnold) Weink of Lake Preston, SD, and Caren (Roger) Hoyer of Badger, SD; his grandchildren and great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Nettie Casper; his wife, Virginia; and his brother, Richard.
