Roger Knock Obituary

Roger Knock, age 71, of De Smet, SD, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Avera De Smet Memorial Hospital. Private family funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at American Lutheran Church in De Smet. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook Live, the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home website, and the American Lutheran Church website. A public walk-through visitation will be at the church on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 5-7 PM. Face masks are encouraged. Burial will be at the Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery in rural Vienna, SD. Military honors will be immediately following the service. It will be conducted by the American Legion Post #138, Patriot Guard Riders and the Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Navy. Active pallbearers will be: Wallace Knock, Tebbo Knock, Richard Knock, Eric Knock, Jared Knock and Kendal Thompson.
Memorials may be directed to the De Smet American Lutheran Church or the De Smet Event and Wellness Center.
Roger was born on April 13, 1949, in Sioux Falls, SD to Arthur and Inez (Hassebroek) Knock. He graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1967 and joined the United States Navy where he spent 18 months in Antigua and 18 months in Iceland. In 1974, he graduated from South Dakota State University.
On August 6, 1971, He married Sharry Thompson at the Bethlehem Church in Vienna, SD. The couple made their home in De Smet, SD, where Roger worked in the floor covering business. He then started working in the custom fabrication industry for Twin City Fans in Brookings, SD, and Desco in De Smet, SD. In 2011, the couple semi-retired together.
He was a member of the De Smet American Lutheran church, where he held many positions, and was a former mayor of De Smet. Roger was also a member of the De Smet Fire Department and the De Smet Booster Club. He coordinated the Meals on Wheels program in De Smet. Roger's loves were first and foremost his family, followed by the De Smet Bulldogs' activities as well as SDSU football and basketball.
Roger is survived by his wife, Sharry, of De Smet; one son, Derik (Tricia) Knock of Omaha, NE; one daughter, Lindsay (Jeff) Nolte of De Smet, SD; three grandchildren: Madyson Knock, Mesa Nolte, and Caleb Nolte; three brothers: Wallace (Kathy) Knock of Willow Lake, SD, Tebbo Knock of Brookings, SD, and Richard (Crystal) Knock of Willow Lake, SD; two sisters: Ruth Westling of Alcester, SD and Ardis (Marty) Conway of San Luis Obispo, CA; one sister-in-law Laurie Knock of Willow Lake, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul; and his brother-in-law, Bruce Westling.
