Ron Gunderson Obituary
Ronald "Ron" C. Gunderson, age 70, of Castlewood, SD, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Private family funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Pastor Jordan Buchholz will officiate. Music will be provided by Jordan Buchholz. The service will be Live-Streamed on our website and Facebook Live. Face masks are encouraged.
Public visitation will be at our chapel, prior to the service on Friday, from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be at Castlewood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Jack and Velma Kreul, Jim and Mary Kath, Paul and Doreen Mullaney, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Active pallbearers will be: Steve Crocker, Lisa Crocker, Ronna Tekrony, Staci Buchholz, Jeff Buchholz and Brian Heupel.
Ron was born on May 3, 1950, to Carl and Rhoda (Neville) Gunderson, in Watertown, SD. He was a 1968 graduate of South Shore High School and then attended General Beadle in Madison, SD, where he met Fran. Ron entered the U.S. Army and after being Honorably Discharged, he returned to South Shore. On June 30, 1973, Ron was united in marriage to Frances "Fran" Goeman. The couple then moved to a farm southwest of Castlewood. Ron worked as an electrician for many years and in his later years he raised Bull calves.
He was a member of American Lutheran Church in Castlewood. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, telling stories and especially the time spent with his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his wife, Fran of Castlewood, SD; his children, Ronald "Tony" (Tammy) Gunderson of Dillon, SC, Missy Gunderson (Nathan) of Sioux Falls, SD, Mark (Jamie) Gunderson of Las Vegas, NV and Angie (Troy) Jackson of Hartford, SD; 5 grandchildren: Makara, Maddax, Cooper, Charli and Maverick; and two sisters, Gayle (Brian) Heupel of Sioux Falls, SD and Nancy (Ralph) Hansen of Milbank, SD.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger; and one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Orville Anderson.
