Ruth A. Skoglund, age 86, of Lake Norden, SD, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Avantara Lake Norden.
Private family funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Pastor Joe Turrill will officiate.
Services will be live-streamed via our website and Facebook Live. Burial will be at West Norden Cemetery in rural Hayti, SD.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ruth's great-grandsons, Jett Enstad and Thomas Otto.
Active pallbearers will be: Jesse (Lisa) Enstad, Sara (Jordan) Doell, Blake Enstad, Michaela Skoglund, Tate Skoglund, Zachery (Becca) Otto, Matthew (Ashley) Otto and Jacob Otto (fiancé Gabby Grams). Ruth was born on June 14, 1934, in Garretson, SD, to Joseph and Anna (Moline) Erickson. She grew up on a farm near Brandon, SD.
She attended and graduated from Brandon High School in 1952.
Her first job was in the office at Shipley's Laundry in Sioux Falls where she made $35 a week.
On March 30, 1957, she married Donald Skoglund in Sioux Falls, SD.
They farmed by Lake Norden and she worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Lake Norden for 24 years, starting as a clerk and was appointed Post Mistress in 1982. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and was active in ladies church groups and also a member of the Senior Citizens Center and Friendly Circle Club. Ruth was very proud of her Swedish heritage with "polt" being her favorite Swedish dish.
She loved when the family came home at Christmas as she enjoyed making a special meal.
She enjoyed watching her grandchildren act out the Nativity Christmas Story. Her hobbies were stamp collecting, cross-stitch, reading and word search. Ruth is survived by her children: Jolene (Doug) Enstad of Watertown, SD, Doug (Barb) Skoglund of Watertown, SD, and Monica (Jeffrey) Otto of Lucan, MN; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Skoglund of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dorothy Skoglund of Thief River Falls, MN. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; one infant child; her parents, Joseph and Anna; one grandson, Joseph Skoglund; and two brothers and one sister. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Advantara Lake Norden. We felt great comfort in knowing she was in your care.
