Sharon Johnson Obituary
Sharon (Raethz) Johnson, age 76, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Faulkton, SD, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020, at her home, surrounded by family, from complications of cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Pastor Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma as organist with Becky Sprouse as soloist. The service will be Live-Streamed on our website and also Facebook Live. The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 9:30 a.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be Friday at the chapel from 5-7 p.m. and prior to the service on Saturday.
Burial will be at Sioux Falls Veteran Cemetery at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are the Prairie Lakes Cancer Center and Hospice Staff, Faulkton Dart League and the "Coffee Ladies". Active pallbearers are: Jerod Raethz, Dennis Raethz, Mike Raethz, Tim Lorenz, Doug Johnson and Lewis Johnson, Jr.
Sharon was born on December 16, 1943, to Irvin "Jack" and Viola "Vi" (McCormich) Raethz, in Cresbard, SD. After graduating from Cresbard High School in 1961, Sharon worked on the family farm and cooked at the local hospital, the VFW and 212 Cafes. She attended and graduated from Stewarts Hair Styling in 1970. Sharon opened The Beauty Inn salon in her home in Cresbard. On September 30, 1978, Sharon was united in marriage to David O. Johnson in Cresbard. In 1978 the couple moved to Aberdeen and she worked at Lords & Ladies Beauty Salon until she retired from doing hair in 1987.
She received her Associate's Degree in Medical Records at Presentation College, graduating in 1991. She worked a Control Data and Midcom. Sharon received another Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting at Presentation College, graduating in 2003.
She loved college and said if she could, she would be a full time student.
She worked at the Faulk County Jail as a Dispatcher and she bartended for many years at the Short Stop Bar in Faulkton. She retired in 2015 in Faulkton, where she lived until she became ill, and moved to Watertown in 2019 to be closer to her daughters.
She volunteered at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Faulkton for many years, and also at Prairie Lakes Hospital. Sharon was a member with the VFW Auxiliary, Faulkton-Lakeside Country Club, numerous dart and bowling leagues. She loved playing softball until she was 34, then she coached for many years. She was currently a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Sharon also cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Social Butterfly she was.
Sharon is survived by her daughters, Darcy Raethz of Watertown, SD and Denise (Ryan) Biller of Clear Lake, SD; her step-children, Shayne (Shannon) Johnson of Burlington, NC, Kevin (Heather) Johnson of Graham, NC; and Lisa Johnson of Redfield, SD; 13 grandchildren, Marah, Austin and Elizabeth Biller; Brooklyn and Morgan Johnson; Justin Lindner, Trevor Shepherd, Ole, Emily and Sophie Johnson; Christopher and Bryanna Johnson and Brandon Whitley; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who she adored and loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents: two brothers, Richard and Larry Raethz; her sister-in-law, Judy Raethz; her niece, Carmalie Raethz and nephew, Jovin Raethz.
