Sonya K. Benson, age 44, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at her residence from an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Dan Ofstehage will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist with Robbyn and Darian Givens as vocalists. The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday, May 5, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Monday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be Tyler Johnson, Jacob Mead, Emily Osthus, Paul Osthus, Brandon McClelland and Adam Kriz.
Sonya was born on September 30, 1974, in Watertown, SD, to Earl and Donna (Redlin) Benson. She attended St. Martin’s Lutheran School. She graduated from Watertown High School and attended Lake Area Technical Institute where she attained a degree in Medical Assisting. She worked at the Brookings Hospital, the Northridge Brown Clinic in Watertown and Family Chiropractic in Lake Norden. She was most recently working at Charlie’s Pawn in Watertown. In her younger years she was an avid bowler and a SD State Junior Champion.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Sonya loved listening to music, her favorite artists being Bon Jovi and New Kids on the Block. She adored her cat, Hoosier, and playing pinochle. Sonya enjoyed spending time with her grandmother, Winnie, and her niece, Camryn.
Sonya is survived by her son, Zachary (Megan Voelsch) Benson of Watertown, SD; her parents, Earl Benson and Donna (Kerry) Redlin Jorgenson, both of Watertown, SD; her brother Troy (Kris Lilla) Benson of Estelline, SD; her niece, Camryn Benson; her paternal grandmother, Winnie Fisk of Watertown, SD; and her paternal step-grandfather, Ken Jorgenson of Aberdeen, SD.
Sonya is preceded in death by her step-mother, Sandy Benson and her grandparents, Harold and LilaFern Redlin, Claire Fisk and Lila Jorgenson.
