SERVICES WILL BE LIVE-STREAMED ON OUR WEBSITE Tyler Blake Mertz, age 24, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Pastor Paul Krause will officiate.
The family is requested to meet by 10:30 a.m. for a family prayer service. The service will be Live-Streamed on our website.
Visitation will be at our chapel on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and continue prior to the service on Friday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jake Brower, Dylan Duffy, Andrew Mertz, Matthew Mertz, Vaughn Doyen, and Corey Tvinnereim. Active pallbearers are: Tyler Waege, Devin Schulte, Nick Jacobson, J.D. Lynch, Christopher Tvinnereim, Caymon Malone, Tyson Petrich and Alex Briggs.
Tyler was born on May 17, 1996, to Adam and Teffanie (Parkinson) Mertz, at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was baptized by his dad and grandpa. Tyler attended grade school at Trinity Lutheran in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 2014. He had worked with his dad and grandpa at Mertz Fencing since he was a young boy. He was currently still working with his dad and brothers. Tyler met Sierra Tvinnereim and her son, Blaze, in 2017. Tyler enjoyed movies, music (Pop Rocks) and time with his friends. He loved food and his Budlight. Tyler especially enjoyed working and spending time with his family and Sierra. He loved to hunt and ice fish as a young man. He also loved darts.
Tyler was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed.
Tyler is survived by his parents, Adam and Teffanie Mertz of Watertown, SD; his girlfriend, Sierra Tvinnereim and her son, Blaze of Watertown, SD; two brothers, Andrew Mertz and Matthew Mertz, both of Watertown, SD; two sisters, Lilliana Mertz (fiancé Sam Smith) of Sioux Falls, SD and Myla Mertz of Watertown, SD; his paternal grandmother, Rosemary Mertz of Goodwin, SD; his maternal grandparents, Wayne (Rhonda) Parkinson of Clear Lake, SD, and Betty Smeltzer of Martinsburg, WV; and great-grandmother, Patricia Dewald of Bowdel, SD.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul Mertz, and Sierra's brother, Jacob Tvinnereim.
A memorial for Blaze's education has been set up at Dacotah Bank in Watertown, SD.
